Kopenhagen
Made a small weekend trip to Copenhagen to attend a friends wedding and thought i could combine it with some sightseeing. So i went to some Museums and visited former work colleagues. And after a few months i finally started to sort out all the pictures i made.Yay!
Of note for me were the Danish SMK and the Glyptoteket close to the train station. Both had a big collection of danish realist painters, though the GT was more focused on sculptures.
There wasn´t nearly enough time to check out all the art on display, unfortunately.

226 : Influence Meme revisited
i recently stumbled upon my old influence meme and thought it would be interesting to do another one and reflect a bit over current and past influences!
Like with the previous ones, i kept out more general things like "nature", "friends" etc and tried to stay specific.
Back then i still defined influence as something that does visibly show up in my work, recently its more for me about things that ignite this motivation and joy about drawing/creating for me, even if the art differs from my own.
While i was less active online in recent years, I went through this common circle of reuniting with my old influences again and this helped me to bring back that spark I thought was lost over the years.

157: retrospective
I wanted to do this retrospective almost 2 years ago .... talking about procastination here, even with having pretty much all the files ready haha.
So, I´ll give a shout out to Casey and Okha , who still had a lot of my old images and saved me a lot time :)
I´m just going to cover the years 2000-2006 though. From 2006 on you can see most of my drawings here in the archives haha
Oh and this was inspired by the wonderful Katie Rice , I highly recommend to visit her blog... her retrospective is unfortunatly gone :( And make sure to check the look-back from Daniel Lieske Daniel Lieske
2000-2003
Influenced by the few Mangas and Anime that were on the market around that time I was highly influenced by Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth, Battle Angel Alita , Record of Lodoss War and Escaflowne (character designer Nobuteru Yuuki was in fact the first animator whoose name I actually remembered and the first Anime based Artbook I bought was some kind of groundwork Artbook for the Escaflowne Movie)
2004-2006
Got my own mac for my 19th birthday with Ps6 on it and could finally properly practise CGing. I already owned a small wacom at that time and now spent all my free time between school and jobbing to practise :D Couldn´t wáít to do what I´ve seen from other artists online. The beginning wasn´t very promising though, I had a hard time getting used to do everything digital.
Also I started to study Graphic Design in Hildesheim that year and at the end of 2004 I discovered ca.org and was blown away haha Also a few month later I bought a proper sketchbook, beeing inspired by wesburt to actually render with pencil...
Also started with a few comics during that time but never finished them...

Influence Map
There way to many things and people that influence me ( especially with all the variety of artists on then net ) so I left out the most obvious Inspirations like Family, Friends ( feel free to check the linklist ) , certain parts of the world, Animals , Animations... The map is pretty much limited to specific Artists ( or other Things ) that inspired me constantly for more than 4 years, continiue to inspire and left an visible impact on my work...at least I think they did. Actually the majority on the map is from my pre-internet times haha...
So yeah, I think my biggest influences are Wendling and Inoue :)

Rescuers down under
I am not really fond of movies with the "little innocent child must be saved" story , but I´ll make an exception with Rescuers down under. The Color choices are so fucking beautiful (!) and i love how the animals are drawn T_T So its still apleasure to watch this little gem.... yo.

Nice Manga
And cause i don´t want to make this post completly pointless i will show you some nice mangas i´ve read lately and that are quite nice imo.
All of these are at least (as far as i know) availble in Germany, France and Italy.
1. Shamo by Akio Tanaka (drawings) and Izou Hashimoto (story)
Well, i´ve been following this series for quite a qhile now, but was always afraid to buy book 19... due some licence Problems it won´t be published here any longer, what makes me pissed a little bit (guess i will have to import the books from now on). This Series is awsome.
What i personally like are (of course) the drawings (they are strong and dynamic) and mainly the character developement. Ryo isn´t really likeble at all, i totally disagree with his behaviour and the things he is doing most of the time, yet i want to know how the story goes on.
2. Vertraute Fremde (Harukana machi-e) by Jiro Taniguchi
This should be widely known, Taniguchi gots a lot of praise for his work for a while now. I recently saw it in a bookstore and thought i could give it a try.
I like the slow storytelling , there is no haste and you have a lot of insight to the characters personalitys. Drawings are brilliant aswell...
3.Subaru by Masahito Soda
A young girl and her talent for Ballett, i have just the first book, but i really like it so far. The drawings may look a bit rough, but i´ve rarely found an comic that carrys so much emotion like this one (i mean, it wa soverwhelming sometimes unfortunatly i havn´t found a good example on the net, and i don´t want to rip my book apart while scanning ;). The Story is for mature readers even though the main Character is a young girl. I´m curious how the series will develope :>

question...
It seems that Ben Hibon is the creative mind behind the movies, i have found a lot of concept work on the webpage, very cool stuff :) And i was also right, he was the (art)director for the small "Heavenly Sword" movies.
Others than that , the Studio he worked with for Killer7 is also worth to check it out :)))
Unit9
-------------------------------------------------
I wonder who did these animation clips, they are cutscenes from a certain Level from "Killer7" (Gamecube and PS2).... ._. I have the suspicion that the guy who did these is also involved in this animu-clips for "heavenly sword"....let me know if you have infos :/ I would love to know if there is more... (btw. suda51 rules, can´t wait for "no more heroes" )
Of course the vids contain spoilers =D

Off Topic: Byousoko 5
But truly, its really nice to watch, i love these backgrounds.
I just wished they would have chosen a more unique Characterdesign than this. I don´t´even think that it is fitting for it :/ But that is just my personal point of view.
Enjoy the visuals
btw. Directing is Makoto shinkai ("voices of a distant star" ,that was this amazing short animation he did all by himself) and the full title is "Byousoko 5- a chain of short storys about their distance"
