Why images turn darker: Google introduced an auto-enhance filter to uploaded photos and turned it on by default (not a nice move!). It kept messing up my photos, too. You can turn it off in your Google+ account settings. :)
I admire your work, inspirational stuff! Regarding the darkness: it might be what eilidh said, or firefox might be playing tricks on you, trying to reinterpret the monitor profile saved in your jpgs, and screwing it up. Try "save for web" when saving jpegs in photoshop, as it saves without a monitor profile. Check if those images get darker after upload. If not, there is your culprit.
Really beautiful as always! It makes me very happy to see your sketches.
A few color exportation tips that I learned over the years: 1) Most browsers now have built-in color management. Export your JPEGs for web and embed the color profile "sRGB vs. sRGB IEC61966-2.1"
2) Be sure to turn off Google's color enhance feature in your account settings.
